Power of 5 Elements in our Living Space as Per Vastu

Nature/Universe consists of mainly five elements/forces/tattvas. All the other things are a combination of them in various proportions.

Moreover, our body also consists of the same five elements which are:

1. Earth — Prithvi

2. Water — Jal

3. Fire — Agni

4. Air — Vayu

5. Space — Aakash

By balancing these five elements we can harness their true potential and bring prosperity in our life. The science of balancing these five elements in our life and use them for our betterment is called VASTU. VASTU is a collection of practical, time-tested solutions based on the fundamental properties of elements that are used to change the negative aspects and introduce the positive aspects of each element to your living environment and change your life for the better.  Vastu is of arranging the basic elements of life and all the things that you surround yourself with, on a daily basis to create the optimal and harmonious flow of vital life energy. Vastu  is not a magic. It is a collection of practical, time-tested solutions based on the fundamental properties of elements that are used to change the negative aspects and introduce the positive aspects of each element to your living environment and change your life for the better. Signifying the art of living in harmony is Vastu Shastra. It has come a long way to be recognized as a relevant science in todays lifestyle. It applies to offices, homes, businesses and any other dwelling. Based on the principles of balancing energies connected with nature and environment, Vastu  attempts to create a positive flow of force to impact in your prime areas of life. To understand the importance of vastu practically, surveying a house or business is of utmost importance. VASTU helps you to enhance your living space by changing one or more elements in your home.

Each home has 5 elements in different proportions. This is because each zone in a building belongs to a particular element that regulates and influences the lives of the inhabitants. If these 5 elements are balanced in a building, they create gains in the lives of the inhabitants and if they are unbalanced, they create a lot of problems and tensions in their lives. These five elements denote five different types of vibrations/energies which are permeated in every living and non-living beings of your home.

Human body has three main constituents (called as Doshas) which are a mixture of these five elements as under;

1. Vata — represented by Space & Air

2. Pitta — represented by Fire & Water

3. Kapha — represented by Earth & water.

Whatever that is liquid and has tendency to flow are considered to be as water. It has cleansing abilities and represents clarity, flow, generation and continuity. If water is balanced in a house then the people residing in this house have a larger picture of life. Whereas if it is imbalanced in a house then the residents find difficulties to get new opportunities, lack desire to grow in life, lack of mental peace and weak immunity leading to regular health issues.

Air gives life to each living being. It has the property of growth which comes from tree. Air, in balanced condition, gives you the courage to try new things and explore your inner self. If air is imbalanced, it causes stubbornness , excessive and prolonged anger, problems with society or neighbor in general. Also imbalance of the air element leads skin infections and joint pains.


Fire represents the spark, zeal or passion of life. It is also called Tejas. It provides you the strength, power, confidence & money which ultimately becomes the driving force of life. In a balanced state, it brings fame and recognition to the inhabitants. If unbalanced, recognition due are not achieved even if hard/smart work are performed continuously. In certain cases, people faces health problems, like acidity and digestion.


Earth element denotes weight and stability. Skill and knowledge are related to earth element. It provides you the capacity to give, including removal of wastage from your body, thoughts, relations and life. In a balanced state, this element induces stability in each sphere of life viz. carrier, behavior, relationships. When imbalanced, it causes laziness, acute lethargy and a feeling that all your energy is gone. Disputes and feuds become common within the family. wasteful expenditure increases.

Space is the most mystic element among all above. The creation of space is manifestation. this is also called as the Ether element. Space is referred as defined boundaries which refers to a built-up space in a home. Balanced Space element give you charge of your destiny. It provides you with new ideas to be organized so that you can excel in all fields that you do. If Space element is imbalanced in a house, the skills are lost and gains are not inline with you efforts and the ideas and situations are not in a progressive way.

As you learn more about VASTU, you will begin to understand the significance of each and every practice that is related to VASTU. By embracing VASTU, you embrace the fact that you deserve balance, harmony, and spiritual fulfilment. You deserve empowerment and clarity.
